Control Risks, in partnership with EPRMA, provides members 24/7 response support for their restaurants encountering issues related to food safety, restaurant shutdown or interruptions in operating due to food borne illness or food safety concerns.

Control Risks Food Crisis Response Management team is staffed 24/7 by analysts, crisis support specialists and customer service representatives. Types of incidents to report to the consultant on call:

Product Recall:

– Item(s) of food being recalled by a supplier

Food Contamination:

  • Biological such as bacteria, pathogens (Salmonella, E.coli, Listeria, Shigella, etc)
  • Physical such as foreign materials (metal, wood, glass, bone, insects, fingernails, plastics, stones, etc.)
  • Chemical such as narcotics/pharmaceuticals, cleaning agents, etc.
  • Anything found in food that logically does not belong

Malicious Product Tampering (MPT) and Extortion

  • MPT – Intentional food contamination, someone putting something in food that doesn’t belong to cause harm or for extortion purposes
  • Extortion – Demand for money through force, threats, blackmail

Health Department Audit Failure or Shut Down/Closure

  • US Health Departments are governed at the State, County, or City level
  • Audit Failures are due to critical health violations or substantial number of health violations which may result in temporary or permanent shut down or closure of the restaurant

Consumer Complaints of Illness/Injury from Consuming Food
